Modules 1 - 2
SCHOOL’S OUT – WHAT NEXT?
The first module introduces the need for a student to make some sort of post-secondary decision through our employment problem solving and decision making model. Employment and further study are both included as post-school options to consider.
WHO AM I + WHAT CAN I CONTRIBUTE?
We explore a variety of career fields that students might enjoy by helping students to register with the myfuture website and identifying each student’s interests and potential levels of education and training. Students expand their self-awareness by identifying their hard and soft skills, personality type and work values.
Modules 3 - 4
WHERE ARE THE JOBS?
Here students consider how they will learn to locate and interpret Australian labour market information. We provide some of the latest data sources which outline recently advertised positions in locations around Australia. The second unit explores a variety of formal and informal approaches to job hunting and recruitment techniques that students may come across when using formal job search methods. Together these units will help your students to focus their job search efforts on where the jobs are, using a variety of formal and informal job hunting methods and being prepared for a range of different recruitment strategies.
HOW TO APPLY FOR WORK
By providing an overview of the different recruitment processes used in Australia, we can then introduce job application techniques in context to students. Each student prepares a resume, cover letter and understands how to address selection criteria. We discuss the importance of personal branding and help students to understand how their job applications can be written to help them stand out and be competitive.
First impressions count, and it’s estimated three-quarters of interviews are failed within three minutes of entering the room. This means that your students need to prepare well before the interview. Students are taught about the importance of personal grooming, demeanour, researching the organisation, researching and anticipating interview questions, practising their responses, managing non-verbal communication and how to follow up an interview. We have also introduced material about how to properly manage a video-based interview and have prepared video exercises that ensure students verbalise and record their interview responses. At the end of the course, students work through a course checklist, ensuring that they have passed all quizzes, and then proceed to download their course certificate. We provide instructions on how to load their certificate and our LinkedIn microcredential to their LinkedIn profile, signalling to employers that they are job-ready.
